What are LEDs?

LEDs, or Light Emitting Diodes, are an alterntive light source which use the physics of semicondutors such as Silicon or Gallium Arsenide to emit light. Here is a great tutorial on what LEDs and how they work: LED Tutorial

What are the benefits of LEDs over standard, incandescent light bulbs?

Incandescent bulbs use a heated filament to produce light. LEDs only use current. This allows for several benefits of LEDs over standard light bulbs:

• LEDs produce far less heat
• LEDs consume far less power
• LEDs last at least 10x longer
• LEDs produce the actual color of light. For example, if you wanted a red standard light bulb, you would either have to paint the glass or apply some type of red filtering material to the bulb to make red light. However, with an LED, the LED itself produces red light. Therefore, LEDs will never fade color.

Are the LED bulbs brighter than the standard bulbs?

Most LEDs emit a focused beam of light. Therefore the light is very bright at small angles, but very dim at larger angles. The advantage of standard bulbs over LEDs is that regular bulbs emit or disperse equal amounts of light everywhere and are therefore very good for backlighting. However, since LEDs usually emit a focused beam of light, they provide a ppor substitute for backlighting unless your system is designed to use LEDs. When replacing automotive bulbs with LEDs, you have to be sure that the LEDs will properly light the dials, gauges, etc. That's why at Lightrikz we've done a lot of research using different types and styles of LEDs to find the ones that work best. Therefore, the LEDs in our kits provide about the same brightness of light as the standard bulbs. However, there are many other advantages of LEDs. Please see the above question.

Are the LED kits plug and play? Is there any soldering required?

All of our kits at Lightrikz are plug and play. There is no soldering involved. You just remove your stock bulbs, and replace them with the LED bulbs provided.

Do the kits include installation instructions?

All of the kits come with full, easy to follow installation instructions.

What are the different shipping options?

All of our kits are shipped US First Class Mail. However, if you prefer a faster method, you do have two other available options: US Priority Mail or FedEx. You can find these shipping options at the bottom of every product page. Just add them to the cart like any other product and we will ship it out that method. These shipping option prices are in addition to the standard shipping rates.

I live in Canada and chose the international shipping option, but at checkout I was charged another shipping fee. Why?

Shipping international costs about 6x more than shipping in the states. That is why the international shipping charge is in addition to the standard shipping rates.
